I grew up in NY a child of the sixties. Although I would listen to the great rock groups of the day with my friends, at night I would listen to the great crooners and singer-songwriters of the times such as Neil Diamond, Beatles, Bobby Darin, Elvis, James Taylor and the like. There was just something about being able to craft songs rather than scream them. So this is what I try and bring to our shows, the ability to connect with people through music and lyrics. The special connection with Neil Diamond goes way back to 1969 and depending on how one looks at it, good or bad, our voices have mirrored each other as we got older and his music has stayed with me through good times and bad. That portion of each show, when I get to interpret Diamond’s music, is very special to me and I believe it is reflected in what I do and how I do it. Many people have said that my ability to mirror his voice and inflections is second to none and that is most humbling and very satisfying. That is not to say that the balance of the show is any less fun, just in a different way!!

My mom always had music playing around our home and as a small child I always enjoyed listening to the groups that harmonized like the Ink Spots, and The Platters, Drifters, and The Temptations. A product of South Philadelphia, I was introduced to the ways of South Philly soul music at an early age and the Philly Doo-Wop sounds. The music I sing to is an extension of my youth and the the happiness I felt when I heard those songs. Songs like My Girl, Under the Boardwalk, and Stoned in Love with You, (I proposed to my wife, Bonnie with that one), and many more. When you come to hear The Great Pretenders be ready to hear the songs that will bring back memories of another time.

SO BE READY TO: LOVE, LAUGH. SING, AND DANCE
